The early campag bolts would break if the two halves met prior to full compression of the ears.

On a Masi, having stretched lug ears is uncommon.

Now, you did not specify the year. The very early ones used a pinned bolt and nut with a washer.

I would trim a mm or more from the female end and use a washer as supplied with the current production part first,

lubricating all contact surfaces.
