It's not really "rougher shifting". The Red FD could use some work but you can use a Shimano FD if you prefer. Most of the noise is because of the chain. Some people run Shimano chains, and I've started using KMC which I've been very happy with so far.
Other than my RD explosion, I haven't really heard anything abour reliability.
I just meant rougher compared to 7900..of course I haven't experienced it myself I'm just repeating what I read in reviews and heard at the shop, you haven't tried the 7900 stuff by any chance have you?
