At first I agreed with you about Comm Ave. being rated too difficult, but now I'm not so sure. Riding along Comm Ave. where the bike lane is requires judicious exiting and entering of the bike lane when appropriate (especially now with the snow covering sections of it). It's not so hard for an experienced rider, but I imagine this new map is geared toward newer riders.
Also, when riding westbound, the bike lane dumps you into the absolute mess where University Rd. and the BU bridge meet Comm Ave. I think that would be difficult for some people.
