Zactly my point. Your comments sounds like you want more speed. Why not go roadie? It's the bes for speed and you CAN change the tires to a wider set for comfort.

On the other hand, like I said, a hybrid can't match that of an mtb in the dirt, on the days you want to offroad.

Comfort bikes are fine if you plan to stick to one plan. But not if you plan to look for more speed or offorad riding. Hybrids are great if you care about your own fitness but never plan to try to keep up with the roadies. It just doesn't work! And believe me, most people say they don't pay attention to others, but hey do! If I slowly pass an 80 yo man, he'll take my wheel then try to drop me later. It's happened!
