I have a Navigator as well. It's a fine bike for what it's designed for. And it gets the job done at other times too. I, and a few other posters here, have ridden metric centuries on them.
OK.. the OP is interested in fitness/road cycling. He has a bad knee and hip. And you're recommending a hybrid/comfort bike... something similar to the Navigator? You're saying this is his best option? Seriously... what have you recommended for yourself? You have a Navigator yourself... if it gets the job done and it's perfectly fine for metric centuries (with bad knees and hips no less) why isn't it your favorite bike? Why do you ride something else?
Like I said earlier, I'm willing to sell it for $150 with slicks (and the original tires), 7-speed trigger shifting, and planet bike fenders. You can buy it... the OP can buy it... anybody. It's not the worst bike and it's not the best bike. But it is a hybrid/comfort bike.
