I do not care how busy someone in the retail industry is, I absolutely do not accept that employees "can reasonably be expected to give short answers to customer questions". That sort of thing is completely and utterly unacceptable.

A person can give a brief, yet informative, polite and courteous answer without being "short" (curt, rude) about it.
If a retail person in a bicycle shop, clothing store, or wherever is "short" (curt, rude) with me ... I don't go back.
