I would probably shy away from sub-$100 full suspension bikes - the suspension would probably cause more trouble than it's worth. Aside from that, any walmart bike should be fine for 1.7~1.5 mile trips, though you might have to make some "concessions" - I have a walmart Huffy that got a frozen rear brake and stuck front derailleur within 3 months with ~1 mile per day usage. Other than that the bike is working fine.
