I personally never mess around with eye wear - always wear it, even if I have the wrong tint. Every once in a while I get hung up in a mudfest or something like that that forces me not to wear them, but again, that makes me feel real vulnerable. You can get decent work glasses that are clear for cheap, if money is the issue. As far as optical correctness, I guess it is second to not wanting to have an eye poked out for me.
