Their owner of the last decade, Pacific Bicycles, really killed off the brand by using the name to sell cheap discount store bicycles. Seems like they've turned the corner and are improving the type and quality of bikes, but they still have a way to go. As previously mentioned, there are better bikes at the same prices at your LBS.
