Fun times, I'm going to leave work this moment exactly to go start removing my brakes...

not.

If the theory is too much because of my unnecessary, rude and anti-internalist (I'll mediate on it later) attitude I'll try another approach:

Have you ever seen a car, towing another car, with a rope? Have you seen said 'puller' stop, and the guy in the second car not brake?

Try that on a bike, with a load. The trailer will shift, because physics has more street cred than tarckstars.
First off, I would never tow a trailer brakeless with kids in the back, a kid no.

Second, Your trailer sounds like the axle is too far back, or you need to spread out your load more. A good rule of thumb is your trailer should have a 10% tongue weight. I can skid with the trailer loaded. I have taken it downhill with a loaded trailer. I slowed down once I saw the hill and maintained that low speed. I wouldn' t do this in San Francisco on Lombard street. But in flat Chicago, I think I'll be alright for the occational beer run.

I know the physics, I've managed to jack knife the trailer messing around in my alley. (Being dumb) But I'm always cautious when I'm on a public road with cars.
