Why is a stiff seat post important? I don't think it matters. When stiffness comes into play, you should be sprinting out of the saddle.
Durability is the real issue for seatposts, and, in some cases, such as, it seems to me, seatposts, 'stiff' is interchangeable with 'durable'.
