I always thought that the old klunkers used drum brakes, possibly tandem hubs. The project is going pretty slow right now due to lack of funds, but the parts are slowly coming together.

I'll have to checkout the Sturmey Archer hubs, that sounds like the way to go with no brake mounts. Eveything will probably be zip-tied to the frame unless I make some old-style cable clamps.
