Well, just made a road bike trade for a XCR4000. Nice enough bike; looking forward to getting on the trails.
I used to be a bike mechanic, so the tune-up wasn't an issue. Threw it on the stand, adjusted everything and had it all spot on.
Took it off the stand for a quick test run.
Hmmmm...
Everything went wonky.
I realized that there's an issue with the design of the bike. The front derailleur is a bottom-pull unit. The issue is that it mounts under the bottom bracket. The bottom bracket pivots with the rear swingarm, which pulls the shifter cable as the swingarm travels through it's compression/extension stroke. Thus, the front derailleur will never be in proper adjustment.
So... is there any common fix for this issue? Any way to re-route the cable to a top-pull, or some alternate means to accomplish a bottom-pull?
What a profoundly stupid design.
