It is that same asshatchet. But, i'm kinda used to it as my geared road bike started out with one too. Maybe I don't know what I'm missing. I did get a Specialized saddle for the geared bike, which is pretty comfortable, but it has the drawback of squeaking against my amfib tights in a way that feels almost like nails on a chalkboard.
The tires seem ok. They're sorta cut up but I've only had one or two flats in 7-8 months. I'm not in a hurry to replace them - they're doing the job just fine for now.
