A triple-ring carbon bike works fine with a BOB as long as you stay on pavement. Get a 12-27 cassette and more robust tires. STI shifters are fine. The mountain bike can also work on pavement if you get bar ends (not the shifters) and as skinny robust slick tires as your rims will handle. Why buy a new bike when the ones you have are appropriate for the job?
