Yep. I had a Kryptonite rear rack. Seemed fairly strong. Eventually(less than 2 years) both welds blew out. I strapped the first weld too stretch the life of the rack and then the other failed. Piece of crap. I never used with panniers only a trunk bag, so the weight it held was not that much. I did a little light off roading on my commute but it was never much more than jumping curbs. This rack couldn't handle it. I don't think you have to buy one of the great ones but one better than this. charlie
