Translation: If a bike isn't stock like some of the collectors' machines I see it must not be good, because that's the opinion of collectors whom I know.... And I want things the way I want them

Translation II: I don't like the direction it's heading in because that's not how I would do something....And I want to find bikes in a certain condition, without too much effort.....

Translation III: I was a perfect, flawless mechanic when I got into the bicycle hobby and never learned from mistakes, because I am perfect and don't make mistakes.......I don't want bad with the good.....

Last time I checked this isn't China, we aren't Commie dictators, and nobody on C&V is perfect....The Drew thing often seems derogatory when I hear it used, to me anyways.

Don't get me wrong guys, I have an extensive collection too, and some of them should never be altered IMO... But get off your high pristine horses for a moment and help some newbies by sharing your knowledge, rather than making jokes at their expense. Talking the talk like an elitist snob is the easy part... What proactive steps are you taking in your nieghborhood bike co-op and college campus to correct the percieved problem?
It seems to me that at least some of the botched jobs were actually attempts to do something creative....People make mistakes sometimes..... Do you want people riding bikes or driving petroleum burning machines?

It's twisted, ironic and funny that I'm defending this issue as I am one of the most anal purists on this forum, but I want people out of SUV's more than I need absolute stock perfection....I agree that some bikes intended to be Ferarri's ended up as Pinto-Chevette mutants, but I am looking for a bigger picture here; A picture of human-powered transportation that is commonplace. I believe that a lot of these "Drew" mistakes come from a misperception about what will make a bike go faster, weigh less or at least look faster; This is based on my conversations with people who don't have a lot of wrench time with bikes. Resolve that issue, and we are off to a great start...
Live and let live for a while OK?
