Let me help you understand.

1. Everything could be catastrophic, if you are willing to suspend credulity and imagine the appropriate scenario to match your nightmares. The so-called helmet waiver offers no credible protection from your imagined catastrophic lawsuit fantasy.

2. Consider that in at least one case a self professed Great Leader has no reason at all other than just to make a rule that he perversely uses to see who "is with him" and who "is against him".

3. The issue in this case isn't that a club leader sets reasonable rules to protect himself or the participants; but rather because THE LEADER can make the RULES, he does, and brags about using the Rule as a tool to weed out "dick heads" and others undeserving of help, assistance or even concern if they live or die (crossed fingers for Darwinian results et al).

All of this hostility based solely on whether other cyclists think, act, and dress like The Leader. And most importantly OBEY the LEADER's demands.
