I've failed to get the bead seated on my road bike before and it was very obvious, it's not like that at all.

It's mostly just that I can feel that the tire is a little fatter than the back one, but it's all over, not just in spots.

I wrote that first bit and just went to take pictures, because it seems like the textured part of the tire bead was up slightly all over versus the rear, and I realized looking at the pictures that the wheels aren't exactly the same. The rear is an Alexrims RP15F and the front is an XRims Z-1000. I had always assumed they were the same since they came on the bike, but I guess it's different because the front has a hub generator to power the lights. The tires are the same, but I guess the wheel difference accounts for the slight difference. Now I feel kinda dumb .
Please don't feel dumb on my behalf. My intention is to help you out here not make you feel stupid. You're doing a pretty good job of explaining something over the internet that almost requires a masters degree in technical writing. Thank you for the specific details. If the tire is not fatter in some areas but just a bit bigger all round it's probably just how it seats on that rim as opposed to the other rim.

I just got reamed in another thread (about mysterious flat tires) for insisting on details in order to actually diagnose the problem. Sounds like by looking carefully at the rims you've solved your problem. With far fewer posts than the other thread- that thread is now onto 3 pages of posts with no specific answer to the OP- so you don't seem too dumb to me. Good job.
