I did that same thing with a 1990 Buick LeSabre. $700 and a new transmission later, what did I learn? Anytime a vehicle makes a grinding noise, stop moving (unless you are fairly certain that it is only the neighbors trashcan dragging underneath you).

Sounds like a shot hub.
