yeah i'm a dude and i still get nasty looks occasionally when riding through that area. it's tough, because i'm jewish also but wayyy less conservative. i've never lived in a place with so many other jews before, which is nice, but having them hate on me for not being jewish enough is not.
In my experience, a lot of Orthodoxy/Hasidim look down on us for not being as Jewish. My cousin and her husband are, and every thanksgiving we have to walk on eggshells because G-d forbid we do something not Jewish enough in front of them. Its not all of them...
