When driving, I am a stickler for absolute literal obedience of traffic laws, and I expect, and often do not get, the same from my fellow motorists. When cycling, I am a bit more liberal, but I would never "blast through" a stop sign or red light. I always slow to walking speed or less at stop signs, and I always stop at red lights, although I may proceed (cautiously and courteously) against the red if I cannot reasonably trigger a green for my direction of travel. I always yield right-of-way, as appropriate and legally prescribed. When walking or jogging, I do what is safe and expedient for me, including crossing divided roads with nice big medians mid-block or even crossing a one-way street or the mouth of a freeway offramp against a red light, if no cars are approaching.
