I think so too! Park a $20,000 bass boat in your driveway and your neighbors will hardly notice. Tell them that you paid $3,000 or $4,000 for a bike that you still have to pedal and those same people will think that you have gone totally insane. A high end bike is a status symbol that an ordinary guy can afford.
How many SUV's ever see a gravel parking lot? What percentage of Corvettes are ever driven 150mph? We don't have qualifying standards for the people who buy that kind of stuff. What's up with this fixation that you have to be able to ride 25mph to own a fast bike? The people who skoff - How will my riding a crummier bike improve their lives?
I agree as well. I am a musician who anguished for years over whether I should buy a custom instrument for a few grand. I realized that was pretty miniscule in the grand scheme of things for something that gave me great pleasure. I'm happy with my ride for now, but I wouldn't deny anyone the chance to jump on that bike and pedal... (oh, maybe those pedal for you?)
