campus "rules"
and by "rules" i mean, laws that technically apply anywhere in the state.
so i got stopped in a flamboyant manner today by a nice enough police officer (for what it's worth) who made a big scene. I was riding opposite a one way street that is low traffic, does have parking on the side of the street though, so it's blind if someone pulls out. he saw me far up the road, maybe 100 m or so and saw about 4 of these parking spaces open, swings the car wildly into the spaces opens the door and sticks his "STOP" hand out . . . O.o so now i'm freaked, this road is frequented by bikes going this direction, probably more than cars. and it was campus police. he told me all the usuals, so i left walking my bike on the sidewalk the direction i was going on until i got back to a main street.
my real question is, on a college campus, would you consider the laws to have more "fluff" so to speak?
for instance, sidewalk riding, yes, illegal yes bad, BUT on campus, if the sidewalk is 20 feet wide, and there are bike racks on the sidewalk side of the building, isn't that sort of implying to use the sidewalk?
it seems that it is more endorsed to ride along side walking people when i'm on campus, just because of the way facilities are set up.
in my particular situation, this one way street makes a large loop, if i were to use the road, it would be longer.
having said all this, don't think that i don't know anything about riding a bike, i ride in atlanta all the time, and if you see a bike stopped at a red light with nobody around, wave, it may be me, i get passed by bikers blowing lights all the time, i simply avoid it. i take the lane, i have lights, i do everything in my power to keep everybody safe, but on campus, i simply don't go by the same rules, whether i should or not is debatable, and i probably should, but. . .
does anybody else have a point of view on this?
