Scott mtb carbon shoes on road bike?

Last year I entered the world of biking and purchased a Scott S40 road bike and I am now considering purchasing a pair of shoes. I commute, but I also plan on participating in a Duathion this summer and maybe a century.

I am considering these shoes http://www.scottusa.com/us_en/produc...912/pro_carbon and I am not too sure one the pedals yet. I figured the mtb style shoe would allow me to walk in them while the carbon sole would help in terms of power transfer and eliminating hot spots? I am wondering if anyone has any experiances with these shoes or any others that are comparable. As well as any pedal suggestions that would best meet my needs.

if you feel I should go with road pedals and shoes please tell me why.
