Well I guess I can comment on this a little. I have Formula Xero XR-3s on my commuter because they were the stock wheel, and IMO they are a terrible wheel. Heavy at just over 2000g and weak with less than 20 spokes per wheel. They will be replaced soon. I had the Formular Xero XR-4 on my Marin which Rich007 now owns. These wheels needed trued with about 200 miles of use but keep in mind that I weigh 225lbs. Once trued they stayed perfect for another 500 niles at which point I sold the bike. They were also around 2000g so also not light. So take that info and apply it to the XR1. IMO they will be a lighter version of the XR-4 which isn't a bad thing but they are machine built so expect to need to true them within a month or so but then they should be good.
I now have the Velomax (now Easton) Circuit wheels on my Salsa. Got these as part of a build kit and I like them. Again they have needed trued but like I said before I am not a lightweight (not to mention that our roads aren't the best) and I have come to expect to have to true a new set of wheels after a couple of hundred miles. They are for sure lighter than the Xero XR4 and I hope they will be as strong or stronger. I have heard nothing negative about these wheels.
When I was putting this bike together I was thinking of ALEX wheels but I could find NO good reviews of their product only neutral reviews and negative ones so I stayed away.
