I was at this race yesterday - first racing season in a long time for me.

I thought the event was run pretty well. I had pre-reg'ed, sign in was easy and quick. Some of my team signed up on the spot and they didn't have any trouble getting registered. Sign in was in one location, a local church provided more restrooms and a changing area.

The races started within a few minutes of their scheduled time. For a February race there seemed to be a decent number of people there in a lot of the categories, the cat 4/5 field being the largest - maybe 35-ish racers? (disclaimer, I am bad at estimating crowd sizes).

The race was run on open roads, the pavement was a bit rough just outside of the town it started in - but that's sort of par for the course out here in the country after the warming and freezing of winter. Some of the corners did have gravel in them, but nothing exercising a little caution couldn't handle. Overall the roads were in good shape. The turns were marked with large orange arrows before necessary turns. Local police were setup at the major turns to stop traffic that would have otherwise not needed to stop. There was also a squad available - and used by a crash in the cat 5's.

I had a good time. Field finish, but feel like the base I worked on all winter will be just fine heading into the season to build on.
