in defense, there is no good way to do what you're wanting, especially if the frame size is over 56 (the conversion frame size, you've already tried what i would suggest, and it didn't work, the LHT doesn't take disc brakes, i'm afraid you should just get a fatter tire for the 700c's . . . fatties fit fine : )
