Great race and a classic in every sense of the word except for the strict definition, which is mostly historical now and fudged by almost everyone.
I just thought folks would enjoy knowing the origin of the terms "classic" and "monument". The Challenge Desgrange Colombo was the combined efforts of sportswriters of newspapers from Wallonia, Flanders, Italy, and France; together they coined the words and defined them in 1948.
