The ride quality is really good, and you can put add clip-ons for TTs when you start doing them.
There are a few good threads in the racing forum about how to "aero" a road frame... but as others have said - if you are having back issues now, needing (or even being able to get ON) a TT bike is a very long way away.

A road bike can work just fine for TTs and will be enjoyable to ride in most situations.
You will specifically NOT enjoy riding a TT bike around in most situations.
