The normal shift pattern when shifting to the big ring is to immediately follow that with a shift of 2-cogs larger with a 53/39 and 3-cogs larger with a 50/34, if you want a uniform progression. All you have to do is look at a gear-inch chart to figure that out. Compact users would find a 2-cog larger sweep annoying. At other times, it is normal to only shift one cog larger at a time.

Sorry, I can resist the temptation to poke at Shimano. They came up short on the shifter redesign. Still heavier, far more expensive and the function has been limited perhaps? Campy is providing the new ultrashift lever for all five component groups.
