I always wear a cap under my helmet... it prevents my head from getting sunburned, absorbs sweat, and prevents too much heat loss in cooler weather.

Fred that I am, I just use welding caps which are lightweight and virtually invisible.

In the winter I wear anything from a light to heavier weight toque to keep my head warm.
