You're not likely to get much consensus on what looks good but as far as chaffing goes you want to get clothing (or at least underwear) that has no seams in the areas where you tend to chafe.

Cycling specific clothing is an obvious choice but not the only one. Some soreness will go away on its own as you get used to riding. A poorly adjusted saddle could be part of the problem or it could be that you need a different saddle altogether.
