Bikes: a mountain bike with a cargo box on the back and aero bars on the front. an old well-worn dahon folding bike

I would recommend a tire that meets all of these criteria: (there are several out there)

-made by a major tire maker, one that people trust
-relatively thick rubber, not as easy for small objects to penetrate
-not a skinny tire. 1.75 inch and up: your tire will cushion and protect your wheel better, and it will roll over small obstacles better
-slick or near slick tread.
