Eh, I don't think they are jackass as much as just super low quality. I agree on the whole 'save up and buy a decent bike from craigslist' and all that stuff, but just because someone buys a low quality bike it can be an ok beater. It's when people spend stupid amounts of money just getting the bike up to normal standards, and by doing that spending as much as they could have on just a buying a good bike in the first place that makes them jackass.
Just an observation. I don't think we should deter someone from a certain bike because it's not what the cool kids, or people that are 'in the know' ride.
If some guys walks into his lbs and buys an SE because he didn't know any better and he liked it for the price, good for him as long as he rides it into the ground. Next time he will hopefully know better what he wants/needs.
I'm happy to see anyone riding a safe bike. Good looks and superior quality are a bonus.
