I'll chime in and say I don't think that's what Hot Potato meant at all. Not once did he say a person shouldn't practice braking. You just need to be aware of the risks. I happen to totally agree. On nearly all of the surfaces that I ride on, if you grab a big handfull of front brake only, you're going down.
