A lot of people like gels because it goes down easier but I've learned how to chew Also, I've learned that, for myself at least, a lot of it is learning to pace yourself. When you are with a group hammerfest, there is nothing you can do but hold on for dear life but when you are riding alone, I've learned where my limits are.

Also, part of it is the route. I usually have a routine 80 mile route up to Nyack and back so I pretty much know what to expect and when/where to eat and drink and where to put the foot on the gas a bit more.
