Early in my racing, I lost out on an opportunity to take 2nd or even 1st in a race due to a shifting problem with a Botrager crank (equal to the 105) and upgraded because of it. Now I have SRAM and even though the weight is less the shifting is crisper and that's a hugh part of the price difference.
And that's fine. And if you want the higher end stuff because its better looking, that's fine too. And if you want the higher end stuff just because it costs more, that's fine too. If, however, you're strictly looking for the weight savings because you think it will significantly improve your performance, you may be wasting your money. And that, my friends, is the point of the thread.
