Actually, it calibrates the speed sensor by use of the GPS. I used mine first on a trainer, then outdoors. After the outdoor ride, the speed sensor on the trainer was corrected. If you want proof, input a wheel circumference value in the setup manually. Then go for a ride outdoors. Then, after the ride, check the setup values -- unless you were amazingly accurate in your initial input, the wheel circumference value will have changed.
