The first vehicle that could be self-propelled was invented by a guy named Nicolas Cugnot in 1725. It was powered by steam.

Karl Benz and Gottleib Daimler are credited with the invention of the car.

Henry Ford invented the assembly line. As a result, he was able to make his cars more affordably. Thus, "regular" people could afford them.
