I agree that bike lanes are for the convenience of cars, not bicycles. If the bikes follow the rules of the road, cars would have to slow down and pass when it is safe which some do. I am always amazed that even if I am going 5 mph faster than the speed limit (on my bike), cars still want to tailgate me and are in a hurry to pass. I assume they don't bother to look at their speedometer, they just 'know' that bikes are slow so they 'must' pass.

That's exactly what I was saying in my second reply to the Mlive dot com article.
When the bicycle is at or above the speed limit, the bike can use the
whole road, whether it's a bicycle or a motorcycle. This is exactly why motorcycles don't have a lower accident rate than bicycles.
Motorist education must be taught.
