Their biggest issue was generating enough power to keep the thing going. I think they figured that it was 250-300 watts to maintain a safe attitude. I actually think that the flight across the channel ended up in a crash landing because the rider was so depleted.
but this one's lift is provided by a helium balloon, all the rider would provide the xy thrust. A lot less strenuous and demanding
