Yours looks great! A solid utility bike just like mine, which I'm using as a 3-season commuter & rain bike.

They work OK. The left side has a fore-and-aft wiggle like a loose tooth, when its cable is slack. Keep a little tension in the cable and it's not an issue. I know badger_biker found this as well.
The other thing is, the shifter bolts keep coming loose. I need to keep them quite tight and re-tighten them every 15 miles or so. I just got some Loctite type stuff, hopefully that will help.
Aside from that, the actual shifting is great.
