Beating a Dead Horse: Canti Brake Squeal

LHT; Oryx canti brakes.

I posted a thread about this a while ago. A thoroughly exhausting post. That didn't solve my front brake squeal.

After a while of "dealing with it" I found a cure: mega toe-in. Only about 33-40% of the pads now touch the rim (maybe 50% when the front wears down a little), but the squeal is gone. Rear brakes never gave me a problem.

Question: Is it safe? Or better phrased: How unsafe is it?

In test riding I experienced a noticeable yet negligible decrease in stopping power. Especially when used in conjunction w/ my rear brake.
