Also, if you are riding north and south you should use a steel frame bicycle to ride toward the magnetic north pole then switch to an aluminum frame bike for the ride back. That's why so many of us have to have so many bikes. The potential speed improvement is roughly the same as switching from a 25mm tire to a 23mm tire.
