That started on the Attitude MTB, they continued it on the Quantum, Pro I believe. Essentially it was a cartrige bearing instead of a loose ball system. This also included the use of the Mission Control stem, and yes it was a special size, special size for a special bike!
As for the bar tape, I had it laying around, thought it went well with the teal and blue bits. White would look nice, but free is better!
