El Gigante, around here, if there is a collision of that type, the person operating the moving vehicle is responsible, not the person who opened the door of the parked vehicle. In your case, that means you. It may be the same in California. Check it out. Another moral, besides courtesy, is that it's your responsibility to ride far out enough that a door opened "out of nowhere" doesn't affect you.
