I have been a big fan of the Mavics for year and have had no problems. The Ksyrium line is a good place to start for an all around wheel with a good weight. Zipp will be expensive for most of their wheels, well over 1k. As to the cassette for the trainer you shouldn't have to do anything to the rear mech from switching wheels as long as they are both 9 speed.
