In my town, skilled, experienced cyclists avoid streets with bus routes, because those streets are bumper to bumper with crazed Suburban and pick up truck drivers driving ten miles over the speed limit. Only the most inept, hapless cyclists wander onto those streets. Bus Drivers do honk their horns when coming up behind such cyclists, because some of the ineptitude of this "class" of cyclist includes wandering from lane to lane without looking behind them.

The bus drivers in Houston tend to be very cautious. I do not know of anyone injured due to an error on the part of a bus driver. They even avoid causing injuries downtown, when messengers do their "famous" move of passing a bus on the left side of the bus, and then turning directly into the path of the bus. If only the OTHER drivers in Houston had the skills and alertness of bus drivers.
