+1 on looking for the date codes. Definitely a newer, probably late 90s model.

Also, you're right that it has "brifters" but they look to be RSX and not deore. The Deore you see refers to the rear derailer. Aero bars, they're not. Those are standard road drop bars.
Maybe it's around a 97? Check bikepedia
